About

Inside

Hidden deep within Stancombe Park’s historic estate, The Temple is a rare architectural gem — a classical Doric retreat reimagined for modern living. Its elegant symmetry, serene atmosphere and sweeping views make it one of Britain’s most romantic hideaways.

The interior centres around a circular hall, where a cosy seating area and dining table sit beneath high ceilings. The adjoining kitchen is compact but exceptionally well equipped, featuring an electric oven, fridge-freezer, Nespresso machine and all essential cooking staples — olive oil, salt, pepper, coffee pods, tea, sugar, cling film, foil, washing-up essentials and fresh tea towels. A small stocked bar awaits on arrival, alongside a welcome hamper featuring Champagne, smoked salmon and locally sourced produce.

A comfortable double bed nestles within a romantic alcove framed by Doric columns, dressed in 100% Egyptian cotton bed linen, feather pillows and a down duvet. The bathroom offers Rituals toiletries, soft Egyptian cotton towels, a shower, loo and hairdryer — all the essentials with understated luxury.

Throughout the temple, guests enjoy Wi-Fi, a Bose sound system and TV, allowing for quiet evenings accompanied by music or film.

Outside

Step through the doors to a private terrace overlooking the ornamental lake gardens. A BBQ, outdoor furniture and dining space make it perfect for alfresco suppers or sunset drinks. Guests have exclusive access to the gardens, tunnels and grottoes of the estate, creating a sense of complete seclusion.

Location

Located in Stancombe Park, near Dursley, Gloucestershire, The Temple sits within 19th-century Grade I listed parkland — a world of winding paths, stone follies and mirror-like lakes. The Cotswolds’ villages, walks and restaurants are within easy reach, yet once inside the grounds, it feels a world apart.

Access

Check-in from 3pm, check-out by 10am. Minimum stay three nights. Pets are welcome by arrangement. Parking is available on site beside the property.

With its classical design, tranquil setting and rare privacy, The Temple at Stancombe Park is a destination in itself — a place to slow down, reconnect and experience timeless romance.
