A secluded 19th-century Doric temple overlooking a private lake within the Grade I listed grounds of Stancombe Park — an intimate, elegant hideaway for two with complete privacy, modern comforts and a uniquely romantic atmosphere.
The Temple sits deep within the historic grounds of Stancombe Park — a rare 19th-century Doric retreat reinterpreted for quiet, modern living. Its symmetry, atmosphere and views make it one of the most romantic escapes in the Cotswolds, offering complete privacy within extraordinary surroundings.
A circular hall forms the centre of the interior, with a seating area and dining table beneath soaring ceilings. The compact kitchen is exceptionally well equipped, including an electric oven, fridge-freezer, Nespresso machine and full cooking essentials. A stocked bar and a generous welcome hamper — Champagne, smoked salmon and local produce — await guests on arrival.
A romantic alcove framed by Doric columns holds a comfortable double bed dressed in Egyptian cotton linen, feather pillows and a down duvet. The bathroom includes Rituals toiletries, Egyptian cotton towels, a shower, loo and hairdryer. Wi-Fi, a Bose sound system and a TV allow for quiet evenings indoors.
Doors open to a private terrace overlooking the ornamental lake gardens, furnished for outdoor dining and barbecues. Guests have exclusive access to the estate’s lake, tunnels and grottoes, creating a setting that feels completely secluded.
The Temple is located within Stancombe Park near Dursley, surrounded by 19th-century Grade I listed parkland with lakes, follies and woodland paths. Cotswold villages, walking routes and local restaurants are within easy reach, yet once inside the grounds, the setting feels entirely its own.
