About
Midsummer Mill, formerly known as Midsummer Wood, an enchanting and romantic former mill house, whose site dates back to the 14th Century, is found at the end of a single track lane set on the River Windrush in a sleepy, sunny hollow that teems with wildlife and is silence except for this; a bucolic bolthole that transports one back to a simpler time.
But Bourton-on-the-Water is an almost all footpath/bridleway walk so plenty of amenities are almost on the doorstep without you having to touch your car; in fact Midsummer Mill is connected via paths and byways to many of the prettiest Cotswold villages, including the famous Slaughters.
The hand-painted Mark Wilkinson kitchen is equipped with a Miele fridge-freezer, a dishwasher, large and small ovens and a microwave, a Nespresso machine as well as providing blenders, juicers and mixers etc. so you should not want for anything in the kitchen department. There is, of course, a washing machine as well as a tumble dryer.
The house is offered for up to eight people without the self contained guest cottage, with two double bedrooms on the first floor, one is the master king bedroom with en suite bathroom with bath, shower/steam room and twin sinks, the second is a King bedroom with an adjacent en suite bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. The two twin bedrooms – one with twin double beds – are on the second floor that share a family bathroom with bath and overhead shower. The fifth, en-suite, bedroom is a ground floor bedroom and is attached to the detached self-contained guest cottage and is accessed from the garden; however the owner feels this bedroom is best suited to one not a couple and is classed as staff rather than prime accommodation.
The guest cottage has two ground floor bedrooms and is available at a supplemental charge if required. Children are very welcome and the house comes equipped with a cot – travel/folding type – and a high chair however children must be supervised around the river and the mill race as whilst shallow and in the main slow flowing neither are fenced. The ‘road’ you see is part of the property – it is the house’s drive – and the house is at the end of a dead-end single track lane with no car access apart from your own, but it is also a ByeWay so you will have the occasional rambler wander past but it is still a very private bolthole.
There is private parking for four cars and if required you can land a helicopter on the property by prior arrangement.
